The T5 and the front-wheel drive models are no longer available in the 2020 Volvo S90. While these has been discontinued, there are still a lot of things anyone can expect with this luxury midsize car. Offering a smooth quality ride, you will also consider the 2021 Lexus ES as one of the best-rated luxury midsize cars in the market. This one has a roomy cabin, and is equipped with a large trunk.

Design & Style

The 2020 Volvo S90 easily impresses on the outside. Inside the cabin, there are plenty of elements that highlight its design and style even more. It combines comfort and luxury in its cabin, with its power-adjustable front seats making adjustments easier for one's seating position. Expect a lot of headroom and legroom on both rows of its plush and cozy cabin setup. It has a striking minimalist cabin design which combines premium materials, including brushed metal, leather, wood, and soft-touch plastics.

Seating up to five people, the Lexus ES has well-cushioned seats in its whisper-quiet cabin. It used Lexus' synthetic leather in designing the interior. The cabin looks good but you can upgrade it for a price if you want authentic wood, ambient lighting, semi-aniline leather, and wood and aluminum trim pieces inside it.

Technology & Safety

The 2020 Volvo S90 carries the Sensus infotainment system with a nine-inch touchscreen. Its long list of technologies include a 10-speaker audio, a USB port, Bluetooth interface, satellite radio, HD radio, and a navigation system. Safety wise, it has a rearview camera, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, forward and rear collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. All of these are standard at all trim levels.

The 2021 Lexus ES has added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration among its list of technology features. It carries the Enform infotainment interface, which is rated as the worst in its class for its complicated menus and lack of a touch screen provision. It has an 8-inch display with a mouselike touchpad that makes operating the interface even more difficult. It has advanced driver aids like lane tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist, daytime bicyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, pre-collision system, and automatic high-beam headlights.

The 2020 Volvo S90 has two engine offerings. One if the T6, a turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine that generates 316 horsepower. Registering 400 horsepower in terms of output, the T8 engine combines the T6 with a lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor. In the case of the 2021 Lexus ES, it carries a 3.5-liter, V6 engine that generates up to 302 horsepower.

The Bottom Line

The 2020 S90 has powertrains that appeal to different personalities. It remains undisputed in the league of luxury midsize cars, and definitely topples down the Lexus ES in almost all aspects.
