There are plenty of things to look forward to in the 2020 Volvo XC40. Topping the list of delightful finds is its roomy interior that can accommodate up to five passengers, regardless of shape and size.

The 2021 BMW X4, on the other hand, launches the X4 M and X4 M variants in its lineup. It promises and enjoyable ride, not only because of its handsome interior, but because of its potent turbocharged engines.

Design & Style

Combining ruggedness and modernity in the exterior, the 2020 Volvo XC40 is one handsome car to consider. It is tough, thanks to its solidly constructed body. Inside, taller passengers will love not just the ample legroom and headroom from the front to the rear seats, but also its good outward visibility. Cabin space has been well-designed using the T-Tec upholstery that combines synthetic leather bolsters with cloth cushion coverings.

The 2021 BMW X4 has been designed to carry five passengers. Note, however, that the second row is a bit cramped up for taller adults especially during longer trips. This is because of the low roofline in it. While it looks ruggedly handsome outside, the interior is not really a breath of fresh air. It lacks some styling that its rivals offer.

Technology & Safety

The 2020 Volvo XC40, as usual, has the very dependable Sensus Connect infotainment system. This has been gifted with the nine-inch vertical touchscreen that looks like a tablet settled on the dash. Aside from supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it also has a Wi-Fi hotspot provision as well. The standard rearview camera works with advanced driver aids. The long list includes lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, traffic sign recognition, oncoming collision mitigation, and road departure mitigation.

The X4 comes with the iDrive infotainment system, a user-friendly interface. This includes a 10.2-inch touch screen, but supports Apple CarPlay only. It has a navigation system, Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD Radio, a 12-speaker stereo, and automatic climate control. Standard safety features wise, you only get to enjoy the rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection.

Breathing up to 187 horsepower for its standard engine, and 248 horsepower for its other engine version, the 2020 XC40 easily impresses in terms of performance. The X4 also generates 248 horsepower for its standard engine.

The Bottom Line

An excellent car with all the brilliant features, the 2019 Volvo XC40 definitely topples down the UX in a lot of aspects. You will not be dismayed if you decide to buy the XC40.
