The 2021 Volvo S60 is a turbocharged beast with outstanding seats, a wonderful Scandinavian design and cutting edge tech. How does it fair against the 2021 Genesis G70, a fabulous car with a soothing cabin, sporty performance and manual gear box?
Design & Style
The Genesis G70 is as smooth as they come. It has an elegant nose which descends towards the ground, with front fenders that are muscular and an extended frame. The air intakes are attractive and prominent and the cabin is sleek with its metallic trim and quilted leather. The Volvo S60 looks sharp inside and out. The seats feature thick bolsters that will fit the form of anyone who sits in them. The cabin has just over thirty five inches worth of leg room with plenty of space for the head. The materials look great, and include leather, wood and polished metal. The exterior is sleek and sharp with edgy lines that indicate this car was built for maneuverability and speed.
Technology & Safety
The Volvo S60 does such a great job of protecting its passengers that the IIHS has given it the Top Safety Pick award, the highest honor a vehicle can receive. Every model comes with lane control along with emergency automated brakes. Its Pilot Assist allows drivers to briefly remove their hands from the steering wheel to tend to other tasks without crashing the vehicle.
Luxuries within its cabin include the choice of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, sunroof, nine inch displays, powered seats and sound delivered by Harman Kardon speakers. The Genesis G70 has also earned the Top Safety Pick award, despite the fact that its base headlights received a poor rating. It has most of the safety tech found in the Volvo including automated high beam lights, blind area monitoring and a camera with surround view. Its cabin perks include eight inch touchscreens, powered seats that can be heated and cooled and climate control.
Performance
The Genesis G70 is quick and nimble. It is equipped with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can generate 252 horsepower that enables it to blaze from zero to sixty in around 7 seconds. The Volvo S60 is also equipped with a turbo 4 that is 2 liter and capable of generating 250 horsepower that works in conjunction with an automatic eight speed transmission.
The Bottom Line
The Volvo S60 and Genesis G70 are nearly identical when it comes to their engines and performance. But the Genesis has smaller touchscreens, its back seat and trunk is cramped, and its headlights received a poor review, making the Volvo S60 the winner.
