The 2021 Volvo V60 has received praise for its spectacular appearance and exceptional hybrid powertrain options. But how does it compare to the 2021 BMW 5 Series, a car with a spacious cabin, lots of engine options and the newest tech?
Design & Style
The latest BMW 5 Series has a number of updates, which include a bigger twelve inch infotainment display, enhanced driver assistance and a new hybrid powertrain which is forty eight volts. It provides an excellent balance between comfort and performance and though rear wheel drive has been standardized, buyers can also choose the all-wheel drive option. The trunk is power operated with remote start and the seats in front are heated.
The Volvo V60 is without a doubt the most beautiful station wagon we've ever seen, and is derived from the S60. The cabin is posh and LEDs can be seen in front with external mirrors which power fold and include automatic dimming. Within the cabin passengers will be presented with multiple USB-C ports so they can charge electronic devices and those that purchase the Momentum model will get eighteen inch wheels.
Technology & Safety
The Volvo V60 has received a five star safety rating from the NHTSA due to its many protective functions, which include lane keeping management, emergency automatic brakes, pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts, cruise control and semi-autonomous operation. Luxuries within the cabin consist of climate control, navigation systems, nappa style leather upholstery and audio from Harmon Kardon.
The BMW 5 Series includes both standardized and optional driver assistance tech, which covers most of the gear that appears in the Volvo such as semi-autonomous handling, pedestrian detection, blind area monitoring, automated emergency brakes, and notifications for cross traffic in the rear. Its luxury features include satellite radio from SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB ports and voice commands.
Performance
Those that purchase the BMW 5 Series have the option of the M30i variant, which comes with an inline 4, petrol engine that is capable of generating 248 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 5.8 seconds. Those that purchase the Volvo T8 Polestar will be able to generate 415 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in around 4.4 seconds.
The Bottom Line
While the BMW 5 Series offers substantial performance, it comes at the cost of lackluster engagement, and this combined with its bland cabin style and costly packages makes the Volvo the better buy, especially when given the fact that the V60 has better horsepower and safety credentials.
