Both the 2022 Jaguar E-Pace and the 2022 Volvo CX40 are sub-compact SUVs and reflect their companies' attempt to woo younger drivers with a compact SUV. The results are mixed. While the Volvo CX40 delivers on ride quality, spacious cabin and a very refined look, the Jaguar E-Pace struggles. That premium look is further enhanced by a sporty stance as well as an aggressive front styling.

Technology & Safety

With the 2022 Volvo CX40, you get a host of safety and tech features. From smartphone connectivity to hill-start assist, the Volvo CX40 is as fun to drive as it is safe. The Volvo CX40 also features a fantastic infotainment system that is controlled via touch. Using it is easy, and the menu items are intuitively laid out for easier operation. You will also love the crisp and clear audio system in the base model, although one has the option to upgrade. With the 2022 Jaguar E-Pace, you get an equally well-decked out vehicle although most of the features available in the Volvo CX40 are options here.

Performance

Both these vehicles are powered by a 2-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The result however is different when it comes to ride quality. While the 2022 Volvo CX40 is smooth and easy to drive, the E-Pace felt clumsy around corners. It didn't handle very well and the engine felt sluggish at times. This is surprising for a car with the Jaguar badge. With the Volvo CX40, ride dynamics were superb. The cabin stayed quiet even under high revs thanks to superb sound-insulation engineering by Volvo.

The Bottom Line

So which of these two sub-compact SUVs should you get? While the two are fairly good, you are likely to get more satisfaction driving the 2022 Volvo CX40. It is a superbly engineered car and has a lot more to offer drivers than the Jaguar E-pace
